July 3rd….Happy Stump Day

Because I wont be posting tomorrow…I will tell you this story today.

July 3rd is the day I know more people born on than any other day…including my birthday! Maddy, Barbara, Anne P., Ross, Tiny, Sandy and I will remember more of you…Like for example…Kelly. It is also a day I lost one year which is how it became known as “Stump Day”. It was like this, I stayed over the night at my best friend Jane’s house on July 2nd. We woke up and it was July 3rd. We ate toast and whipped butter that her mom always had lots of and it was 1962. It seemed like no one else was home and almost like the rest of her family was on vacation but I think this because Jane’s mom always took us to Provincetown, Ma. in those years which was the height of the year for Jane and me. Summer meant Provincetown and Provincetown meant vacation. But this day…we were in Paramus, NJ and Jane’s new boyfriend came over and Jane and her boyfriend went some where in her big house and left me alone to have Stump Day (although I didn’t know it was Stump Day until July 4th) all to myself. I made lots of art that day and ate fruit and took naps and read and maybe Jane and her boyfriend visited me but maybe not. Then It got dark and I went to sleep and woke up on July 4th. “Well…” I said to Jane “I have to go to my Aunt Sally’s today. Happy 4th of July! Bye.” July 3rd, 1962 was a lost day that I will never forget…and of course I will always remember all of the people I know born on July 3rd…Happy Birth Day…Auld Lang Sign.
